Zurich/Lucern
44th Birthday Trip!
Who knew birthdays could be this fun? I was able to pick a spot for a quick get-away for a birthday weekend. I was able to find....are you ready for this?...ROUND-TRIP tickets for BOTH of us totaling....£89's!!! We HAD to go! Plus, Spencer had Marriott points, so we were able to stay in a fantastic hotel for free! I can't think of an easier and more relaxing way to see Switzerland.
Zurich!
The Grossmünster is a Romanesque-style Protestant church in Zürich, Switzerland. It is one of the four major churches in the city. It forms part of the Evangelical Reformed Church.
The other three major churches are:
Predigerkirche, Fraumünster and St. Peter.
The streets were so beautiful..Spencer made me stand in many of these pictures..
The architecture was beautiful, charming and it was pretty relaxing just to walk around and discover.
The art everywhere was breathtaking.

Trip up to Mt. Pilatus
The most STUNNING views!
Mt. Pilatus is composed of several peaks, of which the highest (2,128 m (6,982 ft))
Worth EVERY effort it takes to get there. (It's actually quite easy - especially when you get to take a gondola up to the top!)
Back to Zurich...
Climbing to the top of Grossmunster. Worth the steps to get these views.
The views were so spectacular at every vantage point!
Fraumünster Church: The choir of the abbey includes 5 large stained glass windows designed by artist Marc Chagall and installed in 1970. Each of the 5 has a dominant color and depicts a Biblical story.
These windows and their meaning were absolutely spectacular and worth every minute we spent there. Even Spencer enjoyed our tour there and was not in a hurry to leave.
Lucern
Okay, Lucerne is ABSOLUTELY charming in EVERY sing way. Just wandering the streets was the best part.

*This is out of sequence, but this is the Zurich Opera House.
You can see Chapel Bridge in the distance... ending with St. Peter's Chapel. The bridge was initially over 270 metres (890 ft) long, although numerous shortenings over the years and river bank replenishments mean the bridge now totals only 204.7 metres (672 ft) long.
Inside St. Peter's Chapel
The Lion Monument carved in 1820–21 by Lukas Ahorn commemorates the Swiss Guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution, when revolutionaries stormed the Tuileries Palace in Paris. The Swiss Guards had been assigned as part of the Royal House of France. The King Louis XVI and his family had been forced from their home, and when the Swiss Guards tried to defend the king, a great massacre occurred. The inscription below the sculpture lists the names of the officers and gives the approximate numbers of soldiers who died (760 men). Mark Twain praised the sculpture of a mortally-wounded lion as "the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world.
Kapellbrücke (Chapel Bridge) is the oldest wooden covered bridge in Europe, as well as the world's oldest surviving truss bridge. The bridge itself was originally built 1365.
Church of St. Leodegar
We were able to sit on the side of the river and just look over the Lake Lucerne.
It was such a gorgeous night.
Upon leaving the city, we got to enjoy a very talented band playing music.
We arrived back to the hotel and found these little treasures waiting for us!
