Ty in Club Basketball 

Something you will learn about Ty; he takes his business seriously and is a bit 

competitive...a-hum Spence...and has grabbed onto basketball and surprised us with his 

determination and defensive skills. He was asked by his club coach to come play in a 4-game tournament, 

and he wasn't even an official member of this particular team. He was so jazzed.

Spence goes back to Barcelona

Spence was asked to travel back to Barcelona for work and got to stay in the 

Westin. The hotel was designed to look like a sailboat and is situated right on the coast. 

Ohhhhh..he has it pretty good sometimes....

Virginia Water Lake

I was able to go on a beautiful walk with Mary Fitzgerald, Shauna McHenery and Julie Larrucea around Virginia Water Lake. This is the punchbowl and it was just starting to bloom. JUST WAIT for pictures that are coming...it looks stunning.

Ike leads in the school play, 

"Ernie's Incredible Illucinations"

Ike's drama teacher, Miss Greb, approached Ike one day after the MS drama tryouts and said, "Ike, why weren't you at tryouts?" He said, "I don't know, I guess I forgot?" She replied, "Well, I could use your help. Will you come be in the play?" He answered (a bit confused), "Um sure?"   When he arrived at the first play practice she handed him his part and he realized it was the lead roll. He was shocked...(so was I.) But I was secretly thrilled that he was even asked! He may have never taken this opportunity at his other school. Sports are typically so demanding in the States and there seems to be very little free time for outside activities. 

So yay for new experiences!

Okay, so I totally get that this was a Middle School play, but this was actually really funny. All the kids did a great job. AND Ike had such a great time performing. He remembered all his lines and totally rocked it! *If Ike never decides to do another play, I don't mind (although I really hope he does), but the fact that he tried and did it, was the best thing. 

Ike's Young Men and Young Women's group all came for their Wednesday night activity to support him. We were SO touched. Fifteen youth and four adults all came! Thank you!!

Grade 5 Exhibition!

So in grade 5, which is the end of primary school and in preparation to middle school, the kids are all involved with a seven week project called Exhibition. It's quite a production. They are to develop and come up with a central idea and at least three "lines of inquiry" to go with that central idea. Depending on what interests them, they are assigned by the teachers with one or two other children from grade five and are to develop an entire presentation which displays their chosen topic. They are encouraged to take time during school hours to go on field trips. They are assigned mentors and counselors and HIGHLY encouraged to not work with their parents, but with their peers. All of the topics were quite somber topics but I think Anne and her group, Bekah Cherrington and Cerys Griffith-Jones were assigned a great topic. It was "How human behavior can create change or conflict." Spencer and I were in awe watching what these girls came up with. 

I arranged with Bekah's mom, Belinda, to take the girls from school to the Imperial War Museum. First of all, this is a SUPER COOL museum. 

They researched the Bosnian War, how families were affected by war and even how fashion was affected by war. It was truly inspiring watching them work together. Here's a little peek of how they looked on the train on the way home! 

Exhibition Night! 

 They opened the evening with a medley of musical numbers. 

It took place outside the mansion on the back lawn.

Anne is a member of the Rock Band and she and the band go to accompany the group while they sang, "Stand by me." It was so much fun.

The children were all dismissed before the parents to get changed and ready for their displays. The girls had decided to represent (through fashion) how the dress was affected by the war. Anne was pre-war 1930's, Bekah was during the war and Cerys was post war, 1950's. They looked so cute!

Ty has really begun to enjoy cub scouts (Especially when they made 

marshmallow launchers!) His leader was Jesse Sutherland.

ACS's International Fair

America!

Okay, this was an UNBELIEVABLE event that the parents of the school puts on. 

SO much goes into it and it was such a fun day and honestly a major highlight of our time here. People are asked to set up booths to represent their countries, make food and dress up just for everyone to walk around campus, trying everyone's food and enjoying the day together. The food prepared was restaurant quality. Our American booth sported hamburgers, beef hot-dogs, and home-made chocolate chip cookies. Every member of the school is encouraged to help make food, participate in a "serving time slot" and support other booths. They had music playing, games for the kids to play in the gymnasium, a parade of flags with the country's national anthem being played and Anne and her friend's band even got to play some great numbers. There was a raffle where people made gorgeous baskets representing their different countries and the grade moms were incharge of making a grade basket to raffle off. I made a wreath with gift cards all attached and called it "Gifting back to the community!" See the wreath below. I took pictures of a few of the booths. 43 countries were represented!!!!
